The best changelog tools for SaaS and app teams (2026)
Eight changelog tools compared on free plans, price, what the price grows with, and what else they include, from roadmaps to live chat.
On this page
The best changelog tools in 2026 are Beamer for announcement-heavy teams, AnnounceKit for a modular changelog priced by active users, Canny for a changelog beside feedback boards, Frill and Featurebase for feedback, roadmap and changelog in one tool, Sleekplan and Headway for a free changelog to start, and Convot for teams that want the changelog inside the same widget as their support chat. Most of these tools have a free plan; the paid price usually grows with monthly active users, tracked users or seats, so the right pick depends on what grows fastest in your product.
This guide compares eight changelog tools on free plans, entry price, the unit their price grows with and what else they include. Prices were checked on each vendor’s pricing page on 1 and 2 October 2026.
Disclosure: Convot publishes this list and is one of the eight tools. Its entry follows the same rules: list price, billing period where stated, and where others beat it.

What a changelog tool does
A changelog tool publishes product updates to your users in two places: a public changelog page, often on your own domain, and an in-app widget that shows what is new with an unread badge. Most tools add scheduled posts, categories such as New and Fix, email notifications to subscribers, and reactions or comments. Developer tools that generate a CHANGELOG file from commits, such as GitHub releases, solve a different problem: they serve engineers, not customers.

1. Beamer
Beamer is the changelog tool for teams that treat product updates as marketing: boosted announcements as pop-ups and banners, push and email notifications, and segmentation. Beamer is free for 1,000 monthly active users, then Starter is $49 a month billed yearly, or $59 monthly, for 5,000; Pro is $99 billed yearly for 10,000. Extra active users cost $50 a month per 5,000. Its Feedback add-on has a free tier with a public ideas portal, unlimited votes and a public roadmap.

Best for: announcement-heavy SaaS teams that want engagement analytics on every update.
Watch out for: the bill grows with active users, so a fast-growing product pays more each month. See Convot vs Beamer.
2. AnnounceKit
AnnounceKit is a modular changelog: you buy only the products you need. The Changelog product is $59 a month, or $49 billed annually, with 10,000 monthly active users and 3 team members included; extra active users cost $25 per 5,000, half of Beamer’s rate. Feature requests and a roadmap, a knowledge base, NPS and in-app notifications are separate products, and the API, webhooks and an MCP server come with every product.

Best for: teams that want a strong changelog with room to add pieces later, and a lower per-user rate than Beamer.
Watch out for: one license covers one project, so several products each need their own, and add-ons such as email notifications ($49) and whitelabelling ($59) add up.
3. Canny
Canny is a feedback tool whose changelog sits beside its feedback boards and roadmap. Canny’s free plan includes the changelog and private boards for up to 25 tracked users, people who post, vote or comment; Canny Pro starts at $79 a month billed yearly for 100 or more tracked users, with custom domains from Pro.

Best for: product teams that want feedback, roadmap and changelog linked, with AI that captures feedback from support and sales conversations.
Watch out for: the price rises with tracked users, and the free plan stops at 25. See Convot vs Canny.
4. Frill
Frill combines feedback, a roadmap and announcements, its name for the changelog, with unlimited admins and widgets on every paid plan. Plans start at $25 a month on Frill Startup, which caps active ideas at 50 and includes 1 survey; Frill Business is $49 with unlimited ideas and 3 surveys, and Frill Growth at $149 adds privacy, white labelling and unlimited surveys. Frill has a 14-day trial but no free plan.

Best for: small teams that want feedback and a changelog in one tool at a low entry price, with no per-seat fees.
Watch out for: white labelling starts on Frill Growth at $149, and the Frill Startup plan’s 50-idea limit fills quickly.
5. Featurebase
Featurebase sells feedback, roadmaps, a changelog, a help center and a support inbox in one subscription. Its free plan covers 1 seat; Growth is $29 per seat a month billed yearly, Professional $59 and Enterprise $99, with its Fibi AI agent at $0.49 per resolution.

Best for: teams that want their changelog inside a broader support and feedback suite, priced per seat.
Watch out for: per-seat pricing grows with the team, and multi-brand workspaces sit on Enterprise. See Convot vs Featurebase.
6. Sleekplan
Sleekplan is one of the cheapest ways to run a changelog and feedback board. Its Indie plan is free forever with a feedback board, a changelog, unlimited subscribers and a single admin; Sleekplan Starter is $13 a month billed yearly with 3 seats and a roadmap, and Sleekplan Business is $38 billed yearly with 10 seats, scheduled changelog posts, a custom domain and branding removal. Sleekplan prices per workspace.

Best for: solo founders and small teams that want a free changelog with a path to a roadmap.
Watch out for: the free plan allows one admin and 1,000 announcement views a month, and a custom domain needs Business. Convot imports roadmap and changelog data from Sleekplan.
7. Headway
Headway is a simple, focused changelog: a public changelog page and an in-product widget, with custom domain and branding, scheduled publishing, a private changelog option, and Slack and Twitter integrations. Headway offers a free plan and a Pro plan; its site did not show the Pro price when checked on 2 October 2026.

Best for: teams that want only a changelog, nothing else, and are happy to start free.
Watch out for: its site shows no feedback board or roadmap product, and Pro pricing is not published, so confirm both with Headway.
8. Convot
Convot is a help desk for small software teams that includes a changelog for each app, inside the same widget customers use for live chat. Each app gets a public changelog on its help center domain with an RSS feed, a “What’s new” card in the widget with a badge for unseen entries, and change types you can rename, plus a roadmap customers vote on and a status page. Convot is free under $1,000 MRR for 1 app, then $49 a month for 1 app and 3 seats; each extra app is $20 and each extra seat $10.
The Convot changelog, published per app with an RSS feed.
Best for: teams that want the changelog, roadmap and support chat in one place, and teams running more than one app.
Watch out for: Convot is not an announcement-marketing tool: it has no boosted pop-ups, push notifications or NPS surveys, which Beamer and AnnounceKit offer. If you need only a changelog, a dedicated tool may be cheaper.

Common questions about changelog tools
What is the best changelog tool?
The best changelog tool depends on what you want around it. Beamer and AnnounceKit are strongest for announcements with segmentation, Canny, Frill and Featurebase for a changelog linked to feedback and a roadmap, Headway and Sleekplan for a simple free changelog, and Convot for a changelog inside the same widget as your support chat.
Is there a free changelog tool?
Several changelog tools have free plans: Beamer for up to 1,000 monthly active users, Canny for 25 tracked users with the changelog included, Sleekplan’s Indie plan with a single admin, Headway’s free plan, and Convot for teams under $1,000 MRR. Featurebase has a free 1-seat plan for its support inbox; confirm the changelog is included before relying on it. AnnounceKit and Frill offer free trials instead.
How much does a changelog tool cost?
Paid changelog tools start at about $13 a month on Sleekplan Starter billed yearly, $25 on Frill (billing period not stated on its page), $29 per seat on Featurebase Growth billed yearly, $49 a month billed yearly on Beamer Starter and AnnounceKit, $49 a month on Convot Starter, and $79 on Canny Pro billed yearly. Beamer and AnnounceKit prices grow with monthly active users, at $50 and $25 per extra 5,000.
What is the difference between a changelog and release notes?
A changelog is the running, dated list of product changes; release notes describe the changes in one release. Changelog tools publish both: each entry is a release note, and the list of entries is the changelog, shown on a public page and in an in-app widget.
Do I need a separate changelog tool if I have a help desk?
A separate changelog tool is not always needed. Some help desks include a changelog, such as Featurebase and Convot, which removes one tool and puts updates where customers already ask questions. A dedicated changelog tool is worth it when announcements are a marketing channel for you and you need segmentation, push notifications or engagement analytics.
