The best Freshdesk alternatives in 2026 are Zoho Desk for like-for-like ticketing at a lower per-agent price, Help Scout for email-first teams that want a free plan, Zendesk for structured ticketing and voice at scale, Crisp for flat-priced chat and messaging apps, Chatwoot for an open-source option you can host yourself, Front for collaborative email, Intercom for AI-first messaging, and Convot for small software teams that run more than one app. Freshdesk itself costs $19 per agent a month on Growth billed annually, so the choice often comes down to features or the shape of the bill, not only the price.

This guide covers why teams leave Freshdesk, what each alternative costs for three agents, where each beats Freshdesk and where it does not. Prices were checked on each vendor’s own pricing page between 30 September and 2 October 2026, except where marked.

Disclosure: Convot publishes this list and is one of the eight tools. Its entry uses the same rules as the others: list price, billing period stated, and where a rival beats it.

Why teams look for a Freshdesk alternative

Freshdesk prices per agent, with Growth at $19, Pro at $55 and Enterprise at $89 per agent a month billed annually, as listed on Freshdesk’s pricing page on 1 October 2026. Four limits on Freshdesk’s pricing page push some teams to compare options.

Freshdesk pricing page showing Growth, Pro and Enterprise plans billed annually Freshdesk pricing page, captured 3 October 2026 (US pricing).

  • Live chat is not listed on the Freshdesk plans. Freshdesk’s pricing page lists a knowledge base, multiple SLA policies and the Freddy AI Agent, but no chat widget. Chat appears to be sold separately by Freshworks, so check what a chat add-on or Freshdesk Omni would cost you.
  • AI is billed by session. Freddy AI Agent includes 500 sessions, then costs $49 per 100 sessions. An email session is a 72-hour window, so a session is not the same as a resolved issue.
  • Useful extras sit on Freshdesk Pro and up. Multiple SLA policies start on Freshdesk Pro at $55 per agent, and Copilot, which includes translation, is $29 per agent a month on Pro and Enterprise.
  • Cost grows with every agent. Three agents on Freshdesk Growth cost $57 a month billed annually, and on Freshdesk Pro $165.

The help desk pricing index lists the AI unit for 24 tools.

1. Zoho Desk

Zoho Desk is the closest like-for-like Freshdesk alternative: per-agent ticketing with SLAs, workflows and a knowledge base, usually for less. Zoho’s US pricing page lists Zoho Desk Express at $7, Standard at $14, Professional at $23 and Enterprise at $40 per user a month billed annually, against Freshdesk’s $19, $55 and $89. Zoho’s own pricing page lists a free edition for 3 users with email ticketing, a 15-day trial, a 5-user cap on Standard, and free migration help from other help desks.

Zoho Desk pricing page showing Express, Standard, Professional and Enterprise plans billed annually Zoho Desk pricing page, captured 3 October 2026 (US pricing).

Where Zoho Desk beats Freshdesk: a lower price per agent, a free plan for 3 users, and a pricing page that lists live chat, WhatsApp and other messaging apps, a multi-brand help center and telephony within its editions.

Where it falls short: prices are localised by region, and the edition each feature sits on is easy to misread, so check the comparison table for your region before you budget. It suits teams already on Zoho CRM best.

2. Help Scout

Help Scout is the Freshdesk alternative for email-first teams that want a simpler inbox. Help Scout Standard is $30 per user a month billed monthly, $25 billed annually, and includes 2 inboxes and 2 Docs sites; Plus is $54 and Pro $90 per user billed monthly ($45 and $75 annually). Its free plan covers up to 5 users with 1 inbox, 1 Docs site and up to 100 contacts a month. AI Answers costs $0.75 per conversation resolved without human help.

Where Help Scout beats Freshdesk: a free plan, Beacon live chat on every plan, and a cleaner email workflow.

Where it falls short: three users on Standard cost $90 billed monthly or $75 billed annually, more than Freshdesk Growth at $57 billed annually. See Convot vs Help Scout and the Help Scout alternatives guide.

3. Zendesk

Zendesk is the Freshdesk alternative for teams that need structured ticketing, voice and room to scale. Zendesk Suite Team is $55 per agent a month billed annually, $165 for three agents, and Zendesk Support Team, at $19 per agent, is the cheapest entry. Zendesk’s AI agents are reported to cost about $2.00 per automated resolution on pay as you go, less on a committed plan.

Zendesk pricing page showing Support Team, Suite Team and Suite Professional plans Zendesk pricing page, captured 3 October 2026.

Where Zendesk beats Freshdesk: depth of ticketing, voice from Suite Team, IVR and skills-based routing on Professional, and a large app marketplace.

Where it falls short: Suite Team, which adds voice and the full messaging suite, costs $165 for three agents, the same as Freshdesk Pro, and its AI is the most expensive per resolution in this list, reported at about $2.00 pay as you go. The Zendesk pricing guide breaks down every plan.

4. Crisp

Crisp is the Freshdesk alternative for teams that want chat and messaging apps on a flat bill. Crisp charges per workspace, not per agent: Mini is $45 a month with 4 seats, Essentials $95 with 10 seats and Plus $295 with 20 or more. Conversations are unlimited, and paid plans bundle AI credits, about 90 to 1,350 automated conversations a month.

Where Crisp beats Freshdesk: live chat on every plan, WhatsApp, Instagram and SMS from Essentials, and 10 seats for $95.

Where it falls short: the knowledge base, WhatsApp and live translation start on Essentials, not Mini, and each website usually needs its own workspace. The Crisp pricing guide has the full plan table.

5. Chatwoot

Chatwoot is the open-source Freshdesk alternative. Its cloud Startups plan is $19 per agent a month, Business $39 and Enterprise $99, and the Hacker plan is free for 2 agents and 500 conversations a month with live chat only. The open-source edition is free to self-host.

Where Chatwoot beats Freshdesk: you can run it on your own servers, and its cloud plans include all channels from Startups.

Where it falls short: self-hosting means you maintain it, the help center starts on Startups, and Captain AI uses credits whose cost per reply is not published. See Convot vs Chatwoot.

6. Front

Front is the Freshdesk alternative for teams that live in shared email and want deep collaboration: shared drafts, comments and assignment. Front Starter is $25 per seat a month billed annually, $75 for three, but supports one channel type; email plus chat needs Front Professional at $65 per seat. Front’s Autopilot AI agent starts at $0.05 per conversation.

Where Front beats Freshdesk: collaboration inside email threads, and Autopilot AI from $0.05 per conversation (a conversation unit, not a resolution).

Where it falls short: chat plus email needs Professional, and the knowledge base on Starter is basic. See Convot vs Front.

7. Intercom

Intercom is the Freshdesk alternative for product-led teams that want in-app messaging and an AI agent first. Intercom Essential is $29 per seat a month billed annually, Advanced $85 and Expert $132, and Fin AI Agent is $0.99 per outcome on top. Three seats on Essential cost $87 a month before Fin.

Where Intercom beats Freshdesk: the Messenger with free unlimited live chat, in-app messaging, and the Fin AI agent.

Where it falls short: three Essential seats are $87 a month before Fin, against $57 on Freshdesk Growth, and Intercom has toggled a $19 Essential promotion, so confirm the price at checkout. The Intercom pricing guide covers seats, Fin and add-ons.

8. Convot

Convot is the Freshdesk alternative for small software teams that run more than one app, such as SaaS products, Shopify apps or mobile apps. Convot Starter is $49 a month for 1 app and 3 seats, billed monthly, and each extra app is $20 and each extra seat $10. Every app gets its own live chat widget, help center, changelog, roadmap with voting and status page, and all conversations land in one inbox. Cove AI costs $0.20 per resolved conversation in which it replied, on paid plans only. Convot is free under $1,000 MRR for 1 app and 3 seats, without AI.

Convot shared inbox with conversations from several apps The Convot inbox, with conversations from every app in one place.

Where Convot beats Freshdesk: live chat and a help center for each app on the entry plan, AI priced per resolution, and a changelog, roadmap and status page built in.

Where it falls short: Convot has no phone, WhatsApp or SLA policy engine, and for one or two agents Freshdesk Growth at $19 or $38 a month is cheaper. Convot runs Freshdesk migrations for free, founder-assisted, rather than through a self-serve importer. See Convot vs Freshdesk.

When to stay on Freshdesk

Freshdesk is still the right choice for some teams:

  • One or two agents on email: Freshdesk Growth at $19 or $38 a month is cheaper than most alternatives here.
  • Multiple SLA policies: Freshdesk Pro includes them; few lower-priced tools do.
  • A Shopify store: Freshworks’ free Shopify app shows a shopper’s recent orders inside Freshdesk.
  • Already on Freshworks: if your sales team uses Freshsales, keeping support in Freshworks keeps one vendor.

How to choose

  • Same ticketing, lower price: Zoho Desk.
  • Email-first and small: Help Scout, starting on its free plan.
  • Voice, scale and a big marketplace: Zendesk.
  • Chat and messaging apps on a flat bill: Crisp.
  • Self-hosted or open source: Chatwoot.
  • Collaboration in shared email: Front.
  • In-app messaging and AI first: Intercom.
  • Several apps from one inbox: Convot.
